AEJM Study visit Museums and local communities

This year Association of European Jewish Museums (AEJM) in cooperation with think tank Creative Museum brings its network of museum educators for the study visit to Latvia.

During two days, we will look into community engagement in museums and also explore Jewish heritage in the capital city of Riga. The third – optional – day is a visit to the renovated Rēzekne Green Synagogue

The study visit has been awarded the label of the European Year of Cultural Heritage 2018.

 

Day 1, May 22

10:00 – 10:30 Kick-off at Museum “Jews in Latvia”

10:30 – 11:30 Guided tour ar Museum "Jews in Latvia",  Ilya Lensky, Director and Marina Gehta, Deputy Director

11:30 – 12:00 Coffee 

12:00 – 14:00 City tour “Jewish Riga”, Ilya Lensky, Director 

14:00 – 15:00 Lunch at Tinto

15:00 – 16:00 Riga Synagogue, Ilya Lensky, Director

16:30 – 17:30 Guided tour at Žanis Lipke Memorial, Lolita Tomsone, Director

17:30 – 18:00 Discussion 

19:00 Optional group dinner

 

Day 2, May 23

10:00 – 11:00 Project presentations A Recipe for Muranów (Ewa Chomicka, POLIN) and My Faith and Me (Lisa Shames, London)

11:00 – 12:30 Museum visit and meeting with educators at the Latvian National Museum of History, Toms Ķikuts, Curator

12:30 – 13:30 Lunch at Tinto

14:00 – 15:30 Meeting at Ziedonis Museum, Dace Zariņa, Director

16:00 – 17:30 Meeting at Latvian National Museum of Art, Elīna Bērziņa, Head of Education

17:30 – 18:30 Wrap up and discussion at LNMA

20:00 Optional group dinner

 

Day 3, May 24 (optional)

8:00 Trip to Rēzekne, Facilitated by Dr.art. Baiba Vanaga

12:00 – 13:00 Lunch at “Latgales Gors”

13:00 – 14:30 Rēzekne Green Synagogue

15:30 – 16:30 Ludza Great Synagogue

Approx. 20:00 Back to Riga
